As a freelancer, your professional situation may change over time. It is essential to keep your data updated with the Tax Authority to ensure you meet all your tax obligations.

When to report changes

Whenever there is a change to the information you declared at the start of your activity, you have a legal duty to inform the Tax Authority. This applies to situations such as changing your tax address, the location of your business, or your CAE (Economic Activity Code).

The legal deadline to submit the declaration of changes is 15 days from the date the change occurred, unless the law provides a different deadline for a specific case.

How to submit the declaration

  • On the Finance Portal, by accessing ATividade and selecting Submeter declarações.
  • In person at the Tax Office, via verbal declaration.
  • At Citizen Shops (Lojas do Cidadão).
Important note: If you are under the organized accounting regime, the declaration of changes must be submitted by your certified accountant.

After submission, you will receive a delivery receipt. It is essential to keep this document, as it contains the changes made and your new tax obligations resulting from that change.

This article is for information only and does not replace personalized tax or accounting advice. Rates, limits, and rules can change. Always check your situation with a certified accountant or the official bodies listed above.
